Zero-click occurs when the user finds the answer directly on the Google results page, without needing to click on any site. This happens through featured snippets, knowledge panels, People Also Ask, and increasingly, through AI Overviews — one of the pillars of GEO (Generative Engine Optimization).

For digital marketing, this means that traditional SEO of "winning the click at number 1" is no longer enough. Now it is necessary to win presence — being cited by the direct answer.

How Zero-Click Search Affects Marketing

In 2024, Google launched AI Overviews — AI-generated answers that appear at the top of the search. In 2025-2026, they expanded globally. The result: fewer organic clicks, but more visibility for those who appear in the answers.
