Last month, Instagram announced the launch of its broadcast channels, a public messaging tool that allows one person to send messages to many others. Specifically designed for content creators, Instagram Channels encourage direct contact between users.

The feature is still in testing and has only been released to invited content creators. However, according to the official announcement from the social network, it will soon be distributed to more people. Who is already excited? 😛

How does it work?

As we have seen so far, the idea of this channel is to function like a broadcast list, similar to those that already exist on WhatsApp and Telegram. In practice, the feature allows the content creator to send simultaneous messages to all followers who opted to subscribe to the list. This way, it becomes easier and faster to share text messages, photos, videos, and even voice messages and polls on Instagram.

How to create a broadcast list?

Creating a broadcast list is very simple. Of course, the first step is to have access to the new tool, which is still being distributed among users. After that, just go to your Instagram inbox and start your channel. The first message is sent automatically, inviting followers to join the profile owner's channel.

How to join a broadcast channel?

If you are a user and want to participate in the broadcast channel of a content creator you follow, just follow the steps below:

1. Access the link to the Instagram Channel (in the sticker shared in the Story, in the pinned link in the bio, or through the notification sent when the creator started their channel).

2. Click on "join the broadcast channel" – if you do not already follow the creator, you will be invited to follow them to participate.

3. After joining Instagram Channels, it will appear in your inbox, next to the message topics.

4. Now you can react to the received content, participate in polls, and receive news first-hand. However, followers cannot send messages, only the channel owner can.

5. Whenever the channel owner shares content, registered users will receive a notification. This can be changed in each user's account settings.
