Google Page Rank, the Land of the Blind, and One-Eyed SEO Consultants

In Brazil, this land of opportunity, about ten skilled craftsmen are born for every professional who truly understands the subject. I call this the "Brazilian way" effect; it may be cultural, but it doesn't justify anything.

It's extremely common to receive technical updates from experts as if they were new, absolute truths revealed, but be careful, because the old maxim that "paper covers everything" is increasingly valid when it comes to blogs and content portals about SEO.

One of the most discussed points today is the so-called death of Google Page Rank, which collapsed on experts' blogs without warning to family members, without even a wake being ordered.

This is an extremely important point that truly separates optimization professionals from amateurs. Google PageRank has been one of the most important ranking factors for determining backlink quality and domain authority for years, so where did the consensus that it's no longer useful for an SEO campaign come from?

In 2008 Udi Manber, VP of Engineering wrote on the official Google blog:

"The most famous part of our ranking algorithm is PageRank, an algorithm developed by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, founders of Google. PageRank remains part of our algorithm, but now it's part of a larger system."

In a survey recently conducted by the website SEO-Digger which aimed to evaluate the quality of SEO services practiced in the Los Angeles region (Have you ever imagined doing research in Porto Alegre and Curitiba? :D). One of the questions raised was regarding the myth of the end of Google PageRank as an indicator that affects SERP results.

Question #4: I heard that Google PageRank doesn't affect search results and can be ignored. Is this true?

The best answer chosen was from Dave who said:

Google has defined that PR (Page Rank) is not used to directly determine ranking. This doesn't mean it's useless or should be ignored. It's an indicator, not a gauge. Much like the indicator light on your car's dashboard, it doesn't tell you exactly what your problem is, but it serves as a warning; your oil level is a measurement. If you're having trouble positioning your site for a keyword, PR can be a good indicator of whether your problem is the quantity or quality of links.

In short, Google PageRank remains an excellent indicator for assessing whether your site's backlinks are of good quality or even whether they are reflecting an improvement in your site's quality in Google's eyes. Of course, if it isn't accompanied by numerous other factors, it won't solve your ranking strategy.
