International LGBTIQ+ Pride Day
June 28, 1969, marked the revolt of the LGBT community against a series of police raids in New York on bars frequented by homosexuals. On this date, numerous people were arrested and faced reprisals from the authorities simply for being in that place.
Following this event, several protests were organized in favor of the rights of homosexuals in various American cities. The first Gay Pride Parade was organized the following year (1970) to commemorate the event and strengthen the movement against prejudice.
The Stonewall Inn Riots are considered the "ground zero" of the civil equality movement for homosexuals in the 20th century. The main objective of this date is to raise awareness about the importance of combating homophobia to build a society free of prejudice.
The Gay Pride Day is also a way to remind gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and people of other gender identities that everyone should be proud of their sexuality!
